Both Aamir and Salman Khan are set feature as wrestlers in their next film, slated to release next year. While there were reports that Sultan posed a threat to Dangal story-wise, makers of both the films have refuted that. There are similarities and differences between the two films.
Here are 10 things you need to know about both the films.
1. Both Dangal and Sultan are on the lines of wrestling.
2. But having said that, Dangal is a biopic while Sultan is about a fictitious character.
3. Salman is to play the titular role of Sultan. Aamir is playing the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat, Indian wrestler who inspired his daughters to become wrestlers too.
4. Both Salman and Aamir’s character are Haryanvis.
5. While Aamir has two daughters in the film, rumors suggested that Salman will play a father to a young child.
6. For Dangal, Aamir will be playing young as well as old Mahavir. Hence he has to go a lot of physical transformations. Salman will be seen as a 40 year old wrestler.
7. Dangal is a docu-drama that will depict Singh’s life. Sultan will have elements of romance against the wrestling backdrop.
8. Dangal went on the floors mid-september. Sultan will hit the floors by the end of this year.
10. Salman’s film will release on Eid next year (July) and will clash with SRK’s Raees. Dangal will release around Christmas (December). Early release of Sultan comes as a threat to Dangal, as the audiences would have already witnessed a film on the lines wrestling.
9. Both the films were scouting to shoot in the rusty locales of Punjab and Haryana. But it was learnt that for Aamir’s sake and to avoid similarities between the two films, Salman changed the shooting locale of Sultan to Karjat (where he shot Prem Ratan Dhan Payo).
There were many reports that suggested there was a brief fall-out between the two Khans, but both Salman and Aamir told the media that those were mere false conjectures. The scripts of both the films bear no similarities.
Truth be told, both Ali Abbas Zafar’s Sultan and Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal have massive hype one year before the release and that is definitely working in their favor, respectively.
So which film will win the number game in 2016- Dangal or Sultan? Only time will tell!
