Jiah Khan may have left us all to be in a better place. However, the events unfolding after her death are coming as a shock to everyone. After what happened yesterday, Jiah Khan's boyfriend Suraj Pancholi is now in police custody as Jiah, in a letter found by her sisters a few days after her death, had accused him of abuse and rape.
However, things have gone a step further as Suraj has been sent to judicial custody and will go to jail till June 27. This came after Suraj admitted to beating Jiah while the couple where on a holiday in Goa, about eight months back. He mentioned that they were holidaying in Goa where they broke into a fight and he, in a fit of rage, hit her. He also mentioned that following this incident, a depressed Jiah tried to slit her wrists.
In the letter, Jiah had also mentioned about an abortion that she underwent. Police, on interrogating this further, got confirmation that the abortion actually took place. However, they are still verifying if Jiah took medication or underwent a surgery to carry out the abortion. Police also questioned Jiah's sisters Kavita and Karishma, who according to Sooraj, knew about her abortion. One of Jiah's sisters was supposed to get engaged on the 23rd of this month. On that fateful day of the suicide, Jiah, along with her mother had gone on a long drive and brought her sister a present, perhaps for her big day.
Well, things later took a different turn that day which led to Jiah's suicide. The police who are investigating the case also conducted a post-mortem on the body. The resulting report revealed no marks, apart from those on the neck and throat. Apparently, there were no traces of either drugs or alcohol even.
In another turn of events Jiah's mom Rabbiya Khan has reported to receive threatening calls from the Bollywood fraternity. She mentioned that the B-town film fraternity was giving her calls asking her to withdraw the case that she has filed against Aditya Pansholi's son Suraj Pancholi. She however mentioned that she would not buckle under pressure. She said that she will also report such threats to the police.
However, experts are still determining if Jiah's letter can be treated as a suicide note. Apparently, though a suicide note gives directions to the probe, it cannot be the sole basis of arresting someone.
Both the mothers Zarina Wahab and Rabbiya Khan are, obviously, bent on supporting their children. While Rabbiya accuses Suraj of abusing Jiah physically and mentally, Zarina in her son's defense mentions that the 'rape' mentioned by Jiah in the letter, happened a long time ago in London. As per News24, Zarina is reported to have said that everyone in the industry is aware that Jiah was raped in London when she was 14.
Suraj's mom Zarina says, "My son is innocent and I’m proud of him. He fell in love with a girl who was mentally disturbed. He was in no position to support her. He definitely fell in love with the wrong girl. But if he is guilty, he will be punished. I’m proud of my son and even now I believe that my son is innocent – because I have brought him up,"
"Our houses were close by. She used to drop by sometimes. So where’s the question of being in a live-in relationship here?" she adds and says Jiah should have chosen a more mature guy to have a relationship with.
