Gohar Mamajiwala was born in the year 1910 to a rich Bohri family of Bombay. However, as the lovely Gohar was reaching her teens, the family was struck with a dose of bad luck as Mr Mamajiwala's business collapsed. However, Mr. Homi Master, director or Kohinoor Films came to the rescue of the family and offered Gohar a job as leading actress in his film.
The rest, as they say, is history as Gohar embraced her new career with determination and zeal. Her first film 'Fortune and the Fools' did tremendous business in-spite of being a family oriented film, which was a sort of a risk in the days of the silent-film action lovers.
Miss Gohar, as she came to be called, continued her winning streak with her second film 'Fairy of Ceylon'. As is the trend in the recent times, Gohar went on to become a producer with the production house Ranjit Movietone. The powerful business woman and cinema person Gohar retired in 1970 in Bombay. She breathed her last in the September of 1985.
