Here are some fascinating photos of Vintage Indian Glamour 1860s-1880s. You will see women donning sarees in different fashions, including the Maharashtrian, Parsee, Tamil and Bengali styles, which is prevalent even today. You can also see the Pathani suits and the various 'nautch' (dance) girl styles.
Particularly interesting is the picture of an Indian, Japanese and a Syrian woman, all three training to be doctors, donning their traditional costumes. The Indian lady is Dr Anandbai Joshee aka Anandi Gopal. She was the first Indian woman to obtain a degree in Western medicine.
Enjoy!
