Here is the review for the movie Daawat-e-Ishq. Watch out this space for more updates!

"Daawat-e-Ishq" is not as inviting as the title or the film's promotional events suggested. Food is important to the plot, yes. And hats off to writer-director Habib Faisal for tempering the texture of the tale with a culinary flavour. You wish food were the driving force in this freewheeling tale of love during the times of biryani. But no, this is not really a film about food. It's about a Muslim girl's search for a life beyond finding a suitable match... At least that is what the plot seems to suggest.

Daawat-e-Ishq is a disappointing recipe of love. Quite like its story, the film thugs you into believing it’s all about lofty, delicious, gourmet cinema. Sadly it’s none of those and not even close. When the story doesn’t work, nothing about the film can work, not even the performances. The film doesn’t even rise up to be a passable watch. It is an excruciating bore lacking the fundamental thrill factor. Predictable and mediocre, Daawat-E-Ishq is the not a film Aditya, Parineeti and mostly Habib Faisal can pass for posterity.
Daawat-E-Ishq dodges you with tall promises of serving a great food film or even a good film. But it’s diet food variety of cinema that is neither healthy nor nutritious and leaves you famished by the end of it. Parineeti and Aditya despite their earnest performances cannot bring the needed charm to the film.

Parineeti Chopra and Aditya Roy Kapur, despite sharing no real chemistry are earnest in exploring love, and take on the varied complexities that life throws them well. While Chopra is effortless, it’s Aditya who deserves applause for breaking away from his trademark broody image into a hopeless, but charming romantic. Anupam Kher is delightful as Gullu’s ever-supportive ‘Booji’, but his decision to join his daughter’s notorious plan even when he has lived a life of principle and ethics is a bit far-fetched.
‘Daawat-e-Ishq’ could’ve been savoured had Habib stuck to treating our tummies instead. Alas, it’s not as indulgent as the kebabs or biriyanis, or firnis that we were served occasionally.

The only saving grace of the film is its performances. Anupam Kher’s experience and Aditya’s endearing act infuse some life into these flat characters. Parineeti is as easy as ever. Trained by another actor Elahe Hiptoola (who has produced delightful movies like Hyderabad Blues with Nagesh Kukunoor in the past), she nails the Hyderabadi accent. After Rani Mukerji, she is one of those few actors who know her craft so well.
The film also boasts of shooting on location and brings the beautiful cities of Hyderabad and Lucknow alive on celluloid. Despite good performances, the film loses out as it makes regressive comments on a bunch of things.

Parineeti and Aditya are awesome in this film. Parineeti is convincing as always and Aditya makes Tariq adorable. You can't help but feel bad when he is betrayed. Both the actors have got the diction from Lucknow and Hyderabad just right. And above all the two share great chemistry together. Anupam Kher as the father delivers yet another fabulous performance. Music by Sajid - Wajid is strictly average, they could have done much better.
Daawat-e-Ishq may not be a perfect film but it's an adorable love story and the two young actors make it paisa vasool. Go for it because the taste is just right!

Performances make DEI a fun watch. Aditya Roy Kapoor will surprise you with his easy manners and understanding of script. He is good, probably the best of the lot. It’s high time when filmmakers stopped offering him the roles of a self destructing drunkard. I don’t know who the first choice was for the film, but Parineeti is absolutely fit for such a role. Yes, it’s in continuation of her earlier roles, but she has done a fabulous job. Anupam Kher has taken a cue from his Khosla Ka Ghosla character and does what the director expected him to do.
In short, Daawat-e-ishq is not a film to miss this weekend. For me, Aditya Roy Kapoor is the show-stealer in DEI. A delicious watch.

Parineeti Chopra in the regular-girl make-up and attire as well as in her flashier avatar, and Kapur as the kohl-eyed not-very-educated-but-all-heart guy. But both are left to fend for themselves in a tepid script which goes nowhere slowly.
As Gullu’s straight-laced but loving father, Anupam Kher gives the film its only moments of honesty. The rest is an unpalatable snoozefest.

Daawat-e-Ishq tosses and turns its way through a series of facile twists as complications triggered by Gulrez’s outrageous playacting get worse with each move she makes.
All this makes sense only up to a point. But thanks to the likeable lead pair, the good-natured banter between them and the eventual intent of the film prevent Daawat-e-Ishq from slipping into total futility.
It might not be the grand feast that it promises to be, but some its flavours are alluring enough for the film to be a reasonably appetizing one-time watch.

Parineeti is quirky, fun and bold, whereas Aditya charms everyone with his witty Lucknawi `hero` style. In short, a smooth performance by Aditya (though he really needs to shake off his neck-jostling move, that is so evident from his first movie).
He comes out as an ideal husband-to-be, and I am sure an inspiration to many men out there. What comes as a surprise element is the heartthrob of television- Karan Wahi, who has a minimal screen space but is charming, nevertheless.
Direction is good, so is the storyline and plot. The dialogues are apt and to an extent the humour also strikes the right note with the audiences. Though there is nothing new in the script, but it is served with a whiff of fresh air.
Music by Sajid-Wajid is soothing and at the same time peppy, which can be called a typical Yash Raj way. Therefore, with a fine social message set on the background of two food lovers, `Daawat-e-Ishq` can be safely called a platter of light-hearted rom-com.
This weekend, get prepared for a delicious mix of food to startle your senses with a strong message!

Daawat-E-Ishq is a lousy blend of love, gormandizing foods, colourful backgrounds, punch of humor here and there and also a negative aspect. Simply said the movie couldn’t live up to the expectations as promised by the film makers. Though some parts of the movie are quite alluring but overall the movie with such a sensitive and alarming issue didn’t flare well as it took on to the climax.

Daawat-e-Ishq is neither funny nor insightful so far as its discussion about Section 498A and dowry goes. Far from offering a balanced perspective, Faisal has made a film that's actually damaging, Daawat-e-Ishq is a Bollywood-shaped tick mark supporting the argument that Section 498A is used to harass people side. In an effort to be amusing, the film completely loses sight of the dowry victims and their mistreatment, which is supposedly what inspired the film.
Rating:/5 Review By:Manavi Kapur Site:Business Standard
Kapur is average and looks and acts like a Jat, with none of the Lucknowi tehzeeb. His chemistry with Chopra is interesting, but the plot doesn’t allow much of it to bloom. If anything, the storyline is lopsided and Chopra emerges as the star of the film. Kapur’s character is adorable and some of the dialogues stay with you. But his character, of the man who is against dowry, is unrealistic.
In comparison, Wahi is more convincing, though this may be director Habib Faisal’s attempt to present an ideal for the world to emulate.
The climax scenes are both slow and hurried. There is unnecessary violence and comic chaos, which leaves little time for a proper romantic resolution.
