Rating:3.5/5 Review By:Subhash K Jha Site:IANS

"Fireflies" is an imperfect film about flawed characters who disguise their spiritual ennui in tailored postures of sophistication. It's not a great film. But it's sincere and a largely well-crafted piece of cinema about fractured lives frozen in compromised relationships.

Rating:2/5 Review By:Sushmita Murthy Site:Deccan Chronicle

The performances are underplayed and subdued in keeping with the mood of the film. The dialogues, apart from a couple that may stay with you, do not do much to capture your interest either. The look of the film deceives you into believing that there is depth of content, but what it actually offers is an honest attempt at delivering it.

Fireflies is supposed to be the story of two brothers drifting apart. Each one goes through a tumultuous relationship only to realise that the tragic past they’re trying to run away from will always catch up. Rahul Khanna and Arjun Mathur play the brothers. And thanks to a hackneyed screenplay, it takes some deciphering to figure out the dysfunctions of their relationship.
What was director Sabal Singh Shekhawat thinking? He hasn’t even managed to appropriately tie up the fireflies’ analogy into the narrative of the film. It’s a pity that talents like Rahul Khanna, Arjun Mathur and Monica Dogra are left high and dry. Their effort to bring credibility to an excruciatingly arty story simply falls flat. This film is shot artistically but it doesn’t succeed in the craft of storytelling. It meanders along with fickle dialogue and long silences that just don’t make sense. It’s a classic case of superlative ambition foiled by bad writing and filmmaking.
