Kill/Dil is one of those misfires gun shots of masala cinema that reads like a fun fest on paper. I am sure everyone must have ROFL(Ranveer’s semi-illiterate character doesn’t know what ROFL means, teehee) while shooting and enacting the scenes and even before that there must have loads of laughter while reading the script.
In principle these unprincipled characters who live and die by the gun must have seemed interesting.
On screen Kill/Dil is as flat as the midriff that Ranveer loves to flaunt whenever the script permits. Not that the script here is too particular about what goes and what doesn’t. This is a free-for-all guns-and-romance spree where Gulzar Saab’s poetry slyly meets Ranveer Singh’s buffoonery. Half-way down the narration you realize director Shaad Ali has run out of designer-cool tricks.
Enough of those chic shots of our two heroes riding down busy highways gunning for unsuspecting victims.Yes, our heroes Dev and Tutu are assassins.

It's a joy to watch Govinda on the screen after all these years, and the actor does well as the wisecracking crime-lord who nicely matches steps with the boys when they break into a dance. He has a killer maniacal laugh too, but you can't help thinking he deserved a more meaty role. It's Ranveer Singh though, who owns the film with his livewire performance as the boyish thug. Always ready with a quip, going through life without any filters, he gives us an endearing anti-hero in Dev, who stands out despite the film's many flaws.

Singh may have had the best lines, but actor Ali Zafar as Tutu complements him well as his partner in crime. Kill Dil doesn’t offer any riveting twists, but you don’t feel like putting a bullet to your head at the end of it either. Watch it if you love Singh and his nervous energy.

Ranveer, though genuine in parts, is left pumping so much energy into Dev that you tire by merely watching him move. And, that's unfortunate considering he's talented. His "veg/non-veg jokes" that lead him to a world of LOLs and ROFLs is one of rare, genuine fun. Zafar is unable to step out and own Tutu, and instead invests in the physicality to lend some authenticity to the character. He keeps his hair long, wears cool shades, and rides the stunning Bullet, but forgets to work on his voice modulation or his expressions. Govinda, despite playing the menacing goon, is unable to hide his dancing shoes. Whether he's happy or hopping mad, he prefers to dance and kill his stress.
Parineeti Chopra joins the guy gang with a shocking wardrobe, and flutters her lush eyelashes to create a world of reform and goodwill. It's so exaggerated that we cringe at how she reduces her act into one of ridicule. She even attempts to sizzle through a few songs but fails.

Between Govinda and Ali Zafar, I couldn’t quite decide who was more bored. They looked disinterested like a Siddharth Mallya in an Asaram satsang. Ranveer Singh is endearing. He has worked very hard for the film. It took seven years for Shaad Ali to come back to direction after Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. I wish the sabbatical had lasted a little longer though.

Govinda in an all-new mean, if not lean, avatar is interesting, but that is about it. He still seems to be most at ease when he is allowed to tap his feet.
Fluff is Ranveer Singh's forte. He is good when he is playful; passable when he has to pull off heavy-duty emoting; but best when he is required to be only a bundle of energy.
Ali Zafar's overly affable presence does not quite gel with the cool-cat, ruthless gunman that he plays.
Parineeti Chopra isn't obviously cut out for the sultry siren act, but all she needs are the little moments when she is allowed to be real - like when she proposes to the boy she loves atop Qutub Minar - to demonstrate why she deserves meatier roles.
Watch Kill Dil if you have plenty of time to kill. It is unlikely to deliver much joy to your dil, though.

Once again Ranveer Singh steals the show! His energy levels are unmatched. Govinda does a fab job too as the negative lead. His walk, laughter, expressions and of course dance steps are still entertaining.
Parineeti Chopra as always does her part well. She is convincing every single time. Ali Zafar is good as the second lead!
The film is shot beautifully and actors are styled very well. Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is good and Shaad Ali deserves a pat on his back for putting all this together.
Even after all the little flaws Kill Dil is a good watch! Two hours of pure entertainment.

Nothing rescues us, however. Because Govinda can dance, he’s given a couple of completely outlandish numbers. But there’s nothing in this that he can save with his still-deft moves. Ali Zafar’s familiar amiable self is hopelessly miscast. Ranveer Singh is given a part that allows him to shoot and scoot, things he can do with ease, and is partnered with Parineeti Chopra: the two are buried under despite their best efforts.
And ‘Kill Dil’ goes one better in the way it gets all its lead characters to spew cringe-inducing, crass dialogue.
Dear Yashraj, are you serious?

Kill Dil is a perfect comeback for the ‘Dancing Legend- Govinda’. Not any Tom, Dick or Harry could have played Bhaiyaji’s role better than him. Be it for his killer dance moves or his villainous looks, Govinda‘s performance is commendable. Ranveer’s exuberance and the liveliness with which he has portrayed the character of Dev in the film is laudable. With every new character he plays on screen, Ranveer has never failed to surprise us with something new. Ranveer’s character in the film is pretty much similar to what he is best known for and we must say, Ranveer’s madness knows no bounds!
After Total Siyaapaa being a huge box-office flop, it seems like Ali Zafar‘s performance in the film is all set to get positive reviews from the critics. Ali Zafar, whose forte is comedy, Govinda, who played lead roles in commercially successful comedy films and Ranveer Singh, who is known for his enthusiastic and high spiritedness- they are like the electrons with the highest energy levels! The level of rambunctiousness that is seen in the movie by this killer trio is unimaginable!

Let's face it that, KILL DIL is a film which clearly lacks the 'YRF' style. With this film, director Shaad Ali has terribly failed to recreate the same magic which he had earlier exhibited in films like SAATHIYA and BUNTY AUR BABLI. He falters big time with KILL DIL, which goes onto prove that a film cannot solely survive on music, performances or story plot. It has to be the right proportion of the three.
The jack of the pack in the film is indeed the veteran actor Govinda, who makes a comeback in Bollywood with this film. Even though he has grown old, there is nothing in him which prevents him from moving shoulder to shoulder with Ranveer, Ali and Parineeti.
On the whole, KILL DIL is a film, which could have been worth watching, had it been handled and directed properly. This film's definitely worth a miss.

Shaad Ali does disappoint, doling out a predictable overemotional resolution. The entire tone of the narrative is so flippant that nothing prepares you for the drastic end to this saga.
To be honest, the actors – Ranveer, Parineeti, Ali and Govinda -- execute their parts with complete honesty, but there is little you can do if you are saddled with such a contrived narrative.
There is dil, dosti, paisa and pyaar in this tale, but not a single moment of emotional connect that you can establish with the story or the characters.

The predictable and cliched closing of the story notwithstanding, the film might still be worth a watch, simply for Govinda and Ranveer. Add to that the fun-filled dialogues and you will most likely enjoy the experience.

Kill/Dil is eventually the kind of lightweight effort watchable not for its content, but because you see the makers enjoying themselves. We admire the way they laugh, not the joke they laugh at. That said, more is expected of director Shaadi Ali (Saathiya), and perhaps this is just the rusty beginning of his comeback.

The worst culprit in Kill/Dil is the torrent of songs. The title track is cool, and because it plays up in the opening credits the movie seems promising. Unfortunately the interminable songs that follow make you want to turn towards the exit door.
Kill/Dil is terrible in places, but unfortunately it doesn’t come down to the unintentionally funny, disaster zone like Shaad Ali’s previous effort, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. The box office of Kill/Dil remains moot, but it would surely give Gunday a run for its money at the IMDB ratings.

Govinda as the dancing, dialogue-spewing hood is convincing but his talent could've been put to a better use. Singh owns the film with his honest and effortless portrayal of Dev, but Zafar comes across as too sweet to be the tough guy. Chopra is stuck in a rut and needs to break the shell she has been snuggling in.
Ali's direction shows signs of ineptness and this crime-drama is possibly a blot on his impressive resume.
In a nutshell, the film didn't quite kill it but has in store handful of honest performances.
Rating:2/5 Review By:Suparna Sharma Site:Deccan Chronicle
The film is a classic because its main character has dazzling shades of dark grey. He and his team had the guts to do it almost 40 years ago.
'Kill/Dil' flirts with the idea of having rotten men as its lead pair. It even seems to enjoy their bloody bonhomie. But it chickens out. What a shame! And what a waste! Imagine if Yash Chopra had chickened out and made Vijay sign up to become an LIC agent?
Gulzar has written the film’s songs and his voiceover seems to suggest that Kill/Dil holds some apocalyptic message. Well... It probably does. For Shaad Ali, Aditya Chopra and their two boys: Bhai, grow at least one pair amongst yourselves.

Parineeti is a natural and can fit in any character easily. Ranveer is a full-package entertainer. He only gets better with each passing movie. The clean shaven look that he put on to look like a goon and a `chichora` fits him to the `T`. You will feel connected to the emotions he brings out on screen. But their chemistry is not as hot as was expected. Ali Zafar is the ever-dashing macho man, who can sweep anyone off their feet. Even his acting skill has improved with time.
The only disappointment is the way Govinda was portrayed. He plays a grey character in the movie and he has executed it brilliantly. But if only he could have had more screen space. Nevertheless, even in bits and parts, he made his presence felt. He made sure to ruffle a few feathers with his thunderous act as the negative character.
It is an out-an-out masala entertainment flick. The humour is crisp and the funny one liners at some points do wonders to lift your mood.
By Bollywood standards, the movie has enough fodder to hook and book you to your seats for two hours. Three stars for Kill Dil`! And if you are a movie-buff then go home humming `kakakakaka ..Kill Kill....dadada Dill Dil...`!

Kill Dil won’t make you cringe for sure, but the film suffers from mistaken identity and that remains its perennial problem. We have a dancing Godfather, who decides to break into a dance at the drop of a hat. There are two many songs in the film that dilutes the central drama. The camaraderie works, the romance does too, but what doesn’t work is the film’s story. The botched up climax and the abrupt, muddled ending killed the little goodness that was there in the film. Kill Dil‘s ending just made me want to yell, ‘Kill Me!’ The film is such a waste of a fine caste and what had the potential of being a good film.
Kill Dil is not a bad film, it’s a badly made film. With such sincere actors, the film lacks a distinct soul, killing it’s intensity scene by scene, frame by frame by adding frills. Despite good performances by Ranveer and Govinda, the film is a victim of bad writing more than a bad story, and wobbly direction which couldn’t guide the ship right.
