Bollywood’s mid-year report is out. We have seen some refreshing films this year and here we will talk about 4 male actors whose films have raked in high collection at the box office.
Varun Dhawan
Film: ABCD 2 (91.32 crores and counting), Badlapur (77 crore)
Varun Dhawan had two releases this year. In ‘Badlapur’ he played a harrowed husband who turned a murderer after wife’s death. A killer performance from this ‘Student of the Year’ actor won accolades from critics and audience. ‘ABCD 2’ introduced Varun as a full-fledged dancer and the film has been the biggest grosser this year so far.
Akshay Kumar
Film: Baby (148 crore), Gabbar Is Back (87.52 crore)
This actor got out of ‘Khiladi’ image and portrayed some serious taskmaster roles this year. ‘Baby’, directed Neeraj Pandey, was a mass entertainer and so was ‘Gabbar Is Back’ which portrayed Akshay Kumar as Gabbar – a fighter against corruption. Both have been top grossers this year.
Amitabh Bachchan
Film: Piku (79.92 crore)
Amitabh Bachchan as Bhaskor Bannerjee portrayed the role of a 70-year-old chronic constipation patient with emotions. The film also portrayed a beautiful relationship of a father-daughter. ‘Piku’ was a lovable film and so was Bhaskor Bannerjee.
Ayushmann Khurana
Film: Dum Laga Ke Haisha (30.19 crore)
Made on a budget of 15 crore, the film worked at the box office for its unique content and concept. And after ‘Hawaizaada’, Ayushmann Khurana delivered a hit in the box office with ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’. YRF’s ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ introduced a new face and a new topic – relationship of an educated but overweight wife and a school dropout husband (who fancies a Juhi Chawla-type looking girl).
