Sidharth Malhotra bowled us over with raw and rugged avatar in ‘Ek Villain’. We were surprised to see the chocolate boy turning baddie on-screen. But it was a delight, wasn’t it? And now I am at a loss of words for Varun Dhawan’s earthy look in his recently released ‘Badlapur’. He has done an amazing job in portraying his character with such perfection. And it’s quite understandable how difficult it would have been for a jolly person to play a cold-hearted one.

Both did a mind-blowing job and they were praised by the critics for their respective performances. They took the risk of doing something different and succeeded in their attempts.

Let's have a look at how they fared critically and at the box-office:

Critics review:

While Rajeev Masand said that Varun convincingly gets under the skin of the cold, calculating vigilante protagonist in ‘Badlapur’, Taran Adarsh said that his transformation from an impressionable teenager and a caring husband to an eerily quiet middle aged lonely-disgruntled-man is simply legendary, adding that he gives you an ample display of class as an actor.

For Sidharth’s performance Masand had written that he does very well as the silently simmering type and gets a few nice moments to show off his brooding intensity and as for Adarsh he said the actor is an absolute revelation, catching you with complete surprise as he handles several complicated moments with exceptional understanding.

Box-office review:

‘Ek Villain’ minted Rs.16 crore on the opening day and the first weekend collection was Rs.50.70 crore. Varun’s ‘Badlapur’ has so far minted Rs.24 crore with Rs.7 crore on the debut day.

Though Sidharth’s ‘Ek Villain’ crossed the Rs.100 crore mark within two weeks, we are hopeful that Varun’s ‘Badlapur’ too will create a record of its own.

Sidharth and Varun started their Bollywood journey together with Karan Johar’s ‘Student of the Year’ in 2012. A lot was expected from these two young actors and they sure are fulfilling all of it.

From the sweet-innocent-chocolate boy image to the new B’Town villains, they have made a huge fan following not just with their good looks but with their mesmerising performances too. So tell us who fared better as villains on the big screen.
